Vocabulary

the degree to which it is universal is debatable

gross – disgusting

eg: I think tofu is gross

gross  – very obvious or noticeable, large

eg: That was a gross error.                     He was fired for gross incompetence.

alternate – another one to be used in place of the original

eg: That movie has an alternate ending where the hero dies.

anarchy – no rules form of non-government

eg: Total anarchy would be terrifying.

ethnocentric – thinking people of your country are just inherently better than others.

eg: Ethnocentric thinking is similar to racism.

underdog – the competitor with the disadvantage

eg: Everybody loves to root for the underdog.

root for – cheer for or support someone

In shanghai there are two famous soccer teams, SH Shenhua, Shanggong. I’ma  fan of shenhua, and in last derby game in last season, happened in hongkou stadium. It’s a really tough game until the 70 min, everything goes as a really exciting game, not like a derby but a game worth to remember. In the 74 minutes one players called sunxiang, her broke the leg of shenhua player, deng baba. The bones just get out of the skins. It took almost half a year to heal his leg… in a coma. He was sent to the hospital immediately and he woke up the next day after the operation. He couldn’t even walk by himself until this january, last month he started playing soccer games. At that time Shenhua was losing the game, but after he has been sent to the hospital shenhua shoot just 2 goals in 10 minutes. It’s a sad story and what makes us more angry is that sunxiang said it was totally an accident. Shenhua fans just go to the restaurant and get a bowl of rice and sit there for the whole day.
