F2F Class Notes November 8th (Ben)

Original version

We have a new coming girl in our company. Although she has been working here for only two weeks, she made herself very impressive by showing her brilliant qualities.

She wears make up and perfume everyday properly which makes her look and smell nice. She is so good at clothes matching that her outfits are always gorgeous. She does sports every morning to keep fit and she cooks for herself to make sure she doesn’t get extra calories, as a result she is a size 6. What else? Oh right! She is an efficient worker who does an excellent job.

No! There must be something that makes her not perfect! We finally got one, a huge one. She is 35, unmarried, and doesn’t have a boyfriend. You know in China, this is a terrible fault which is dreadful enough to make all your other good qualities invisible.

PS: This article is just for fun and I do respect single ladies who are above the average age for marriage.

No! There must be something that makes her not perfect! We finally got one, a huge one. She is 35, unmarried and doesn’t have a boyfriend. You know, in China, this is seen as a terrible fault which is bad enough to make all your other (good) qualities invisible.

the bottom of the problem

(often used with “at the end of the day”)

I always have many different projects and issues to solve, but at the end of the day, the bottom of the problem is that I’m both a mom and a boss.

make / made / made

  1. make – present- I often make a cake for my son.
  2. made – PAST – 时间明确 – this morning, yesterday, 2 days ago, when I lived in Beijing, etc.
  3. have made – PAST – 时间不明确 – before, already, never, until now, so far, for 2 weeks

time goes to the end of the sentence !

I every morning eat –> I eat every morning

good at doing something

I am good at watching TV

She is good at matching clothes

She has a good sense of fashion.

缺点

a weakness, a weak point, a shortcoming

The situation in Tibet is a bit of a problem.

I took a taxi so as not to be late.

强调不好的:

I have no girlfriend, no best friend, no acquaintance. I don’t even have so much as a pet.

The meeting was cancelled?  ! You didn’t send me an e-mail, you didn’t tell me, you didn’t so much as called me !

  • Did you meet your English teacher intentionally last night?
  • No, I was in a bar with friends and he happened to be there too.

Teacher’s version

We’ve had a new recruit in the company recently. She’s only been here for a couple of weeks but she has definitely made quite a bit of an impression on us through the display of her various qualities.

As a starter, she has a great sense of fashion and wears impeccable attire and perfume everyday, which makes her smell and look very charming.

On top of that, she cooks for herself and does sport every morning [so as] to keep fit and does a perfect job at it. She is a size 6.
Have I forgotten anything? Oh, yes, she is an efficient worker who does an outstanding job.

Damn, is there anything that doesn’t tip the scales in her favour? We eventually found one: she happens to be 35 and is still unmarried, and doesn’t have so much as a boyfriend.

In China, this is a serious concern which can even be seen as a fault that conceals all one’s other qualities.

PS- This article was just written for the sake of writing. I do respect single ladies who put their career first.
