abstract (adj) {ART}: 1-used to refer to a type of painting, drawing, or sculpture that uses shapes, lines, and colour in a way that does not try to represent the appearance of people or things:
E.g.: abstract art
E.g.: an abstract painter

constructivism (n):a style of art that began in Russia in the early 20th century, based on the idea that art should have a social purpose:
E.g.: His painting has shades of cubism, futurism, and constructivism.

minimalism -极简主义

flying buttresses (n): 飞扶壁1-an arch built against a wall, especially of a church, to support its weight

peninsula (n): 半岛a long piece of land that sticks out from a larger area of land into the sea or into a lake:
E.g.: the Korean/Arabian/Florida Peninsula

Scandinavia (n)斯堪的纳维亚(半岛)-a region of northern Europe that includes Denmark, Norway, and Sweden

etymology (n): 1-the study of the origin and history of words, or a study of this type relating to one particular word:
E.g.: At university she developed an interest in etymology.
E.g.: A list of selected words and their etymologies is printed at the back of the book.

renaissance (n): 文艺复兴the period of new growth of interest and activity in the areas of art, literature, and ideas in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries
