earth-shattering = that makes the Earth shatter 震撼世界的 = that is very important, or very good

This morning, I heard that a colleague rebuked his subordinate with a loud voice in the office. His words sounded not nice but it sounded like there was some truth in them.

His words were: “The fact that jellyfish have survived for 650 million years despite not having brains is great news for stupid people”. It was just metaphor for his subordinate not being smart at work.

Grammar rules:

• keep the same tense, present or past
• 可数名词 –> a, the, 复数 or 谓语 (my, his, her, etc)
• one sentence has one subject and one verb

If you want to add more verbs, they must be in a 从句 

如果一个句子保持2个动词，那么第二个动词是在从句里（大部分时间做动名词）

There is a man walking. (= There is a man. + 从句 walking 动名词)

There is a man who walks outside (= There is a man. + 从句 who walks)

This is a metaphor for his colleague not being smart (=This is a metaphor for his colleague + 从句 not being smart)

I work late. That’s bad for health. –> (My) Working late is bad for health

My father drinks a lot. That’s a problem. –> My father drinking a lot is a problem.

My son is smart. That’s a good thing. –> My son being smart is a good thing.

My colleague does stupid things. I make fun of him for that –> I make fun of my colleague for doing stupid things.

Do you mind if I smoke? –> Do you mind my smoking?

His colleague isn’t smart at work. This was a metaphor for that –> This was a metaphor for his colleague not being smart at work.
