Vocabulary
Figurehead (n/adj): 1- someone who has the position of leader in an organization but who has no real power:
E.g.: The president of this company is just a figurehead – the Chief Executive has day-to-day control.
Solitary (adj): 1- A solitary person or thing is the only person or thing in a place. 2- done alone.
E.g.: On the hill, a solitary figure was busy chopping down trees.
E.g.: He likes fishing and other solitary pastimes.
Extrovert (n): 1- an energetic happy person who enjoys being with other people.
E.g.: Most sales people are extroverts.
Introvert (n): 1- someone who is shy, quiet, and unable to make friends easily.
E.g.: As an introvert, it wasn’t easy for him to make friends.
Intuition (n): 1- (knowledge from) an ability to understand or know something immediately based on your feelings rather than facts.
E.g.: Often there’s no clear evidence one way or the other and you just have to base your judgment on intuition.
Perceive (v): 1-to come to an opinion about something, or have a belief about something.
E.g.: Women’s magazines are often perceived to be superficial.
Improvise (v): 1- to invent or make something, such as a speech or a device, at the time when it is needed without already having planned it.
E.g.: I hadn’t prepared a speech so I suddenly had to improvise.
Advocate (v/n): 1- to publicly support or suggest an idea, development, or way of doing something. 2- someone who publicly supports something.
E.g.: She advocates taking a more long-term view.
E.g.: He’s a strong advocate of state ownership of the railways.
Counselor (n): 1- a person whose job is to provide advice, help, or encouragement.
E.g.: They decided to make an appointment with a marriage counselor.
Values (n): 1- the principles that help you to decide what is right and wrong, and how to act in various situations:
E.g.: The political platform is based on traditional values associated with the rural South.
