Vocabulary

Offend (v): 1- to cause to be upset or to hurt the feelings of someone, esp. by being rude or showing a lack of respect.
E.g.: I think she was offended that she wasn’t invited to the party.

Benevolent (adj): 1-  kind and helpful.
E.g.: I grew up happily under the benevolent influence of my Uncle Walt.

Lobby (v): 1- to try to persuade an elected official to take a particular action or change a law.
E.g.: Council members have been lobbying colleagues on how to vote.

Hierarchy (n): 1- a system in which people or things are arranged according to their importance: (adj: hierarchical)
E.g.: He was at the bottom of the corporate hierarchy.

Social Mobility (n): 1- the ability to move from one level of society to another.
E.g.: The Cast System still prevents social mobility in India to this day.

Ramadan (n): 1- 斋月
