Vocabulary

Coup d’Etat (n): 1- sudden defeat of a government through illegal force by a small group, often a military one.
E.g.: A few months ago there was a failed coup d’état attempt in Turkey.

Ally (n): 1- a country that has agreed officially to give help and support to another one, especially during a war.
E.g.: 
During the First World War, Turkey and Germany were allies.

Racism (n): 1- the belief that people’s qualities are influenced by their race and that the members of other races are not as good as the members of your own, or the resulting unfair treatment of members of other races.
E.g.: 
The authorities are taking steps to fight racism in schools.

Troop (n): 1- soldiers on duty in a large group.
E.g.: 
The troops advanced on the city .

Rational (adj): 1- based on clear thought and reason.
E.g.: 
There must be some rational explanation for what happened.

Dictator (n): 1- a leader who has complete power in a country and has not been elected by the people
E.g.: 
The recently impeached Korean president is the daughter of a dictator who ruled the country for over twenty years.
