That standing girl looked inactive and pessimistic, because she failed the final test and was very scared of her mother’s blame. But her mother used an idiom to comfort her that every cloud has a silver lining.

The girl stood still and hung her head / looked lost / sad / upset.  She had failed her final test and the only thing that she could think of was how disappointed her mother was going to be. But when she got home she was pleased to hear her mother say that there was a silver lining behind every cloud. She was now free to go on her vacation before coming back and taking the test again.

My father told me that when I met one person, primarily you can’t judge a book by its cover, you should seek their inner temperaments through his appearance.

My father always told me to not judge a book by its cover, especially when meeting new people, but rather to try to see beyond their appearance. 

Kim picked one card randomly / a random card, which turned out to be the first prize and this card made him win the first prize.
