Vocabulary

Bleach (v/n): 1- ​to remove the color from something or make it lighter, with the use of chemicals or by the effect of light from the sun; to become lighter in this way. 2- a strong chemical used for cleaning things or removing colour from things
E.g.: Gary’s had his hair bleached.
E.g.: He used bleach to remove the stain from the cloth.

Blond / Blonde (n): 1- men / women who have pale yellow or golden hair. 2- pale yellow or golden hair.
E.g.: He is blond and has blue eyes.
E.g.: Do you think she’s a natural blonde, or is her hair bleached?
E.g.: His hair is blond.

Brunette (n): 1- a white woman or girl with dark hair:
E.g.: She’s beautiful, tall brunette.

Ginger (n): 1- a person who has red or orange-brown hair.
E.g.: Hey, ginger, what are you doing?

Segregation (n): 1- a system in which one group of people is kept apart from another and treated differently, especially because of race or sex.
E.g.: The system of racial segregation that used to exist in South Africa was called apartheid.

Racism (n): 1- the belief that people’s qualities are influenced by their race and that the members of other races are not as good as the members of your own, or the resulting unfair treatment of members of other races
E.g.: The authorities are taking steps to fight racism in schools.

African American (n): 1- a person who lives in the US and is a member of a race of people with dark skin that originally came from Africa.
E.g.: African americans still struggle to have equal rights.

Latino / Latina (n): 1- a person who lives in the US and who comes from, or whose family comes from, Latin America.
E.g.: Raph is a latino.
