Phrases

The phrase what’s it to you is as aggressive as the phrase “it’s none of your business” but is a little bit more cynical.

A secret agenda or an ulterior motive are cynical phrases used to describe the real reason someone wants to do something.

Ex. He paid for the dinner? Sounds like he has an ulterior motive. = he paid for the dinner for a hidden reason

Ex. My boss gave me a raise even though I haven’t been working very hard, what do you think her secret agenda is?

The Top Hits are the most popular songs at any given time.

The phrase going strong is used to describe a healthy relationship. When two people are going strong, they are not having any problems.

Having history with someone implies going though challenges together or private affairs happening. People usually use this phrase euphemize an unpleasant experience.

When a catchy song gets stuck in your head, it means you cannot forget it and you keep humming or singing, or even thinking about it.

To set the scene means “to tell a story.”

To throw shade means to say something very sarcastic and bitter, being indirectly mean to someone.

Ex. Didn’t you wear that shirt two days ago? (Don’t you have you more than one shirt? Why are you lame and re-wearing clothes?)

One Direction – History

You gotta help me, I’m losing my mind

Keep getting the feeling you wanna leave this all behind

Thought we were going strong

I thought we were holding on

Aren’t we?

[Niall:]

No, they don’t teach you this in school

Now my heart’s breaking and I don’t know what to do

Thought we were going strong

Thought we were holding on

Aren’t we?

[All:]

You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)

We could be the greatest team that the world has ever seen

You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)

So don’t let it go, we can make some more, we can live forever

[Liam:]

All of the rumors, all of the fights

But we always find a way to make it out alive

Thought we were going strong

Thought we were holding on

Aren’t we?

[All:]

You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)

We could be the greatest team that the world has ever seen

You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)

So don’t let it go, we can make some more, we can live forever

[Louis:]

Mini bars, expensive cars, hotel rooms, and new tattoos

And the good champagne, and private planes, but they don’t mean anything

‘Cause the truth is out, I realize that without you here life is just a lie

This is not the end

This is not the end

We can make it, you know it, you know

[All:]

You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)

We could be the greatest team that the world has ever seen

So don’t let it go, we can make some more, we can live forever
