Vocabulary

PHD – The degree you can get after you finish you masters (e.g. I am very excited because I just completed my PHD.)

Stay-at-home wife/house wife – Someone who does not work for a company but stays at home and takes care of the family and the home. (e.g. When I have a baby I want to be a house wife and not work for a company.)

Maternity leave – a period of time a company lets the employee not come to work when they are having a baby but still pays them. (e.g. I think that China doesn’t currently have maternity leave for men, only women are allowed to take 2/3 months off work.)

Child minder – someone who will take care of your baby when you are at work or when you go out in the evening. (e.g. When I was young my parents hired a child minder to pick me up from school because they would always work late.)

Selflessness – the opposite of selfishness (e.g. I believe that when a women quits her job in order to take care of her baby she is being very selfless.)

The motion is:

The Chinese government should concentrate on improving China’s education system before trying to increasing the economic performance of tier 1 cities (Shanghai, Beijing…)
