Vocabulary


Ivory Coast – also known as Cote D’ivoire, a west African country with a history of French colonialism.

Ex. For more than three decades after its independence from France, Ivory Coast was known for its religious and ethnic harmony, as well as its well-developed economy.

Ivory – the material made from the tusks of an Elephant

Ex. Although the Ivory trade is largely illegal, many Piano keys are still manufactured from Ivory.

Tusks – long, pointed teeth the extend outside the mouth

Ex. Elephants are famous for there long ivory tusks. Some other animals with tusks include species of deer, Walruses, and wild boars.

Boars – wild pigs that are not domesticated (raised by humans)

Ex. Boars are to pigs as wolves are to dogs. In other words, the difference between boars and pigs is like the difference between wolves and dogs.

P.O Box- Post Office Box, a box located at a Post Office location that serves as a rented mailbox

Ex. Most celebrities prefer that their fan mail is sent to a P.O. box rather than their private residence (home).

Parcel – package delivered by mail (formal)

Ex. When shipping things internationally, many people prefer to buy parcel insurance.

Assess – to analyze

Ex. The expression on the dog’s face made it seem as though he was assessing his surroundings.

Idiom


A “rollout” simply means an unveiling or introduction of something new. It comes from the concept of rolling out a carpet for something important.

Ex. After the rollout, the app gained immense popularity.

The phrase “(object) has taken to it” simply means that a person has enjoyed and approved “it.”

Ex. At first, I had to force my son to go to Piano lessons, but now he’s really taken to it.
