Vocabulary

As soon/fast as possible – to do something as fast as it can be completed. (e.g. I want to move to Australia as soon as possible.)

In the same boat – when you are in the same situation as someone else. (e.g. When I was young I was taught English in a Chinglish style, I think I was in the same boat as many other Chinese people.)

Scientific journal – academic papers that have been published. (e.g. I usually read a lot of scientific journals in English.)

Adapt – to change and get used to a new environment or situation. (e.g. Children can adapt easily if they move to a new Country whilst they are young.)

Ramp – similar to a slide and is used for moving heavy things up stairs and for disabled access to public buildings. (e.g. The 1933 Old Slaughterhouse has many ramps inside, so that all the cattle could be moved around the buildings.)

Hallway – a straight, flat and  sometimes narrow hall  (e.g. I recently went to an old building that had many long dark hallways, it was quite creepy.)

Staircase – a set of stairs that is more than one stair (e.g. If the lift in my apartment is out of service then I have to go down the staircase.)

Fusion – a mix of two things that are different (e.g. The Old Shanghai Slaughterhouse has many fusion restaurants under it.)

Timeless – when something remains modern or relevant in the future. (e.g. The Old Shanghai Slaughterhouse is an example of timeless architecture.)
