Vocabulary


Gender-specific – appropriate for only one gender

Ex. The colour red is not gender-specific.

Comedy – humour, a genre of film

Alice in Wonderland – 爱丽丝梦游仙境

Nostalgia – a god feeling that comes from remembering the past, usually childhood

Nostalgic – reminding you of the pleasant past, usually childhood.

Ex. Even though I think the plot of Alice in Wonderland is unrealistic, I enjoy the movie because I think it’s nostalgic.

Contemporary – recent or new

Grammar


Colours do not need the definite article “the.” For example, we wouldn’t say “I like the red,” we would just say “I like red.”

The difference between to watch, look, and see. In general, if you can do it sitting down, the verb you should use is “to watch.” For example, watching movies, children, etc. If you are watching something for an instant, the verb is “to look at/to look,” and means only for a short period of time. To see is 看到 in Mandarin.
