Vocabulary
Tan line – a line that shows a difference in colour from being out in the sun.
Hurricane and Cyclone also mean Typhoon, the difference is where the storm is located. Typhoons are located in the northern pacific, Cyclones in the southern pacific, and hurricanes in the Atlantic.
Arabic – 阿拉伯语
The word “Hello” in Arabic is Marhaban. (Upon request)
Phonetic – based on sound
Ex. Pinyin is the phonetic Mandarin writing system.
South Pole – 南极
Expressions
A farmer’s tan describes a tan from wearing a t-shirt and only having dark arms.
A wake-up call can literally be a call to wake someone up, or it can figuratively be a signal that makes someone realize something they have been ignoring.
Ex. He needs a wake-up call; if he keeps treating people this way he’ll have no friends.
