aware – to know of or about something – eg: “Most people are not aware that it gets very hot in Alaska in the summer.”
distraction – n. something that makes it difficult to think or pay attention eg: “Someone was making a lot of noise, and it was a big distraction for me.”
feminism – n. the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities eg: “Feminism is a powerful movement which tries to get equal rights for women.”
shame – v. to cause (someone) to feel guilt, regret, embarrassment, or sadness for doing something wrong eg: “Most women are against the idea of body shaming; that you can insult a women because her body shape is not perfect.”
appropriate – adj. right or suited for some purpose or situation eg: “A short skirt might not be appropriate for work.”
petition – n. a written document that people sign to show that they want a person or organization to do or change something eg: “Even if a petition gets a lot of signatures it still has a long way to go before it can change anything.”
deprive – v. to take something away from someone or something eg: “They were deprived of forks and chopsticks, so they has to eat with their hands.”
humiliate – v. to make someone feel very ashamed or foolish eg: “It’s considered rude to humiliate someone without a very good reason.”
misogyny – n. hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women, or prejudice against women “Surely all feminists are against misogyny.”
validate – v. to show that someone’s feelings, opinions, et cetera, are fair and reasonable eg: “Even a very confident person can feel uneasy if their opinions are not validated.”
