I left some work to do

get sth. out of the way – to do it or take care of it sooner, so you don’t have to deal with it later.

eg: Let’s get this out of the way, so we are free later.

eg: I got my work out of the way, so I can come to class tonight.

Alternate uses of Phrases:

Do you see what I’m getting at?                  Get to the point – just say what you mean

I wonder if you could…   (Do or tell me…)          I wanted to know if you could… scan this for me

Could you run that past me again?                 Run sth. by somebody – go over the steps of a plan                eg:  Could you run that by me again?   Could we review that?

I’m afraid I didn’t catch that.                          I’m afraid I’m not clear on that
