Vocabulary

the media (general)

reporter – someone who reports the story, usually by being on camera, on audio

eg: We have a reporter to record today’s media event.

journalist – someone who finds the info, does the research about the story, and write the story

eg: We have a journalist to interview our general manager today.

editor – the person who has final say about an article and often gives assignments to the reporters and journalists

eg: The editor is (approaching/contacting) us to ask for our recent promotions about restaurants.

pull off sth. – 1. to be able to do sth. difficult

eg: You could pull off a shaved head. You would look great with that style.

eg: He is wearing that pink coat with glitter all over it. He looks ridiculous and is not pulling it off.

eg: Do you think I can pull off cowboy boots? Or will I just look silly?


How articles explain new ideas or words (to the reader) words or ideas:

Writing exercise

I have read something this week, which is a short chapter from a novel. I like this article because the very skillful writing style of the writer as well as the attractive way of storytelling only with monologue from single one person. However, you can feel the powerful and extreme emotions of human beings from the monologue, which is full of beauty, sorrow and the space to imagine left for readers.\

I like this article because it has a very skillful writing style, as well as an attractive way of storytelling, with only a monologue. However, you can feel the emotions through the monologue, which is full of beauty, sorrow and it leaves room for imagination for the readers.


Upgraded:

I read a short chapter in English, from a novel this week. I like this article because it’s well-written and appealing. It is told entirely though a monologue.  However, you can feel the emotions through the elegant and sorrowful portrayal. Best of all, it leaves room for imagination for the readers.

Why did you say it’s clean?

Because in our mindset we often think of hot pot as not very clean.

How can you know that place is well-known for being clean?

You can know it’s clean from the reviews on Dian Ping, the place is well-known for it’s spicy food and clean location.

What did you think is the most comfortable thing about the atmosphere there?

The layout is the most comfortable thing about the atmosphere there.

Change it up:  The chairs are the most comfortable thing about this office. (Using the phrases and sentence structure, to make new sentences)
