Feminist issue is a worldwide topic to discussion. I think the feminist issue in china exists in different region in different way. In china, woman has the same right as man, which is clarified by many rules, especially in employment regulation. Female employees have a long-time maternity leave and cannot be laid off during their lactation.
However, female employees still need to face feminist issue during the period of employment. Since female employees are protected during maternity and lactation, employers consider much more issues when they decided to hire a woman. As a woman, each one might be asked the time when she want to have a baby. It is a rude question in other country. As a tradition, woman is considered as the one who should focus on their families and the one who spends more time on work will be called super woman, which has ironic meanings.
Moreover, in rural region of China, woman will confront even more terrible gender discrimination situation than urban region. Woman is regarded as man’s subordinate in many people’s opinion. Even in modern society, many women are asked to pregnant until they have a male child. Some parents even think that girls should not go to school and it is enough for them to recognize and do some simple calculate. Woman should follow their fathers before married and should follow their husbands after married.
