Writing exercise

I am working in a Spanish company. Different from the functional organization structure of other big international companies, the structure of our company is more complicated.

Each department head is hired locally and reports to the CEO in China. However at the same time, a dedicated Spanish is appointed in each department in China by headquarter in Spain. Those staffs report directly to Spain with no repoting line with local management team. The purpose of this structure is to help local team to coordinate more efficiently and closely with headquarter. Unfortunately, it is not the case as expected because they interfered too much with local operation. We call them “Spies†in private because there is so much oversight from those Spainish colleagues and sometimes they tell something very bad behind to the CEO and headquarter. Even worse, sometimes they talked with CEO in Spanish even local team were there.

To me, I feel a bit frustrated under this working environment because firstly I don’t think both the CEO and those dedicated colleagues trust local team and local team need to make extra efforts to get themselves to be paid attention to. Secondly in an organization, sharing information and best practice is very crucial. Thirdly I feel we are wasting too much time on internal political issues instead of working more efficiently.

Working in a Spanish company is different from the functional organization structure of other big international companies, with the structure of our company being more complicated.

Each department head is hired locally and reports to the CEO in China for simplicity of communication / reporting lines. However, at the same time, a dedicated Spanish employee is appointed in / across each department in China by headquarters in Spain. Those staff members report directly to Spain with no / without a / to Spain absent a reporting line with local management team. The purpose of this structure is to help / assist / enable the local team to coordinate (ensure the local team coordinates) more efficiently and closely with headquarters. Unfortunately, it is not the case / it’s not as expected because / as / since / due to the fact that they interfered too much / excessively interfered with local operations. We call them “Spies†in private because there is so much oversight from those Spanish colleagues (of ours) and sometimes they tell something very bad behind our backs to the CEO and headquarters / they report back to the CEO and HQ behind our backs. Even worse / On top of this / To make matters worse, sometimes they talked with CEO in Spanish even though the local team were there.

To me, it’s a bit frustrating being in this working environment / under these conditions because firstly I don’t think / I don’t agree that both the CEO and those dedicated colleagues trust local team and local team need to make / put in extra effort to get themselves to be paid attention to. Secondly in an organization, sharing information and best practice is very crucial. Thirdly I feel we are wasting too much time on internal political issues instead of working more efficiently.
