Make longer sentences like: 

Jay looks at the goalkeeper and Jay finds out that he is short 
Jay looks at the goalkeeper to see if he is short and he finds out that he is short. 

soon – after a short time < > later – after a long time

slow – takes a long time to move from A to B < > fast – takes a shorter time to move from A to B
