2VIP Class Notes (Consultant)

In this class, we checked last week’s homework, read a new book, practiced some phonics skills, and reviewed some songs we listen to last class.

We started the class by checking homework and fixing mistakes. Angela’s handwriting is very beautiful. She can practice more by filling in close sentences and so on.

We read the book Monster Music 4 times.

The first time Angela read the story to me and I checked how well she knows the story. She said she has listened to it before, but had a lot of trouble reading it. She misread a lot of simple words maybe because she felt like she wasn’t reading really well in general. She also had limited comprehension of the text.

The second time I read the story to her and used vocal signaling and pointing to help her understand the text. I asked her to retell the story to me afterward and she could understand it a bit better.

The third time I read the story to her and explained all of the new words and sentences. Angela could comprehend the vocabulary well but did not fully understand the logical relations in the story. In this book, Pufe helps the piano store sell pianos by playing music. I asked Anglea and she did not fully understand the fact that playing music would get people to buy more pianos. I think it would help with parents could go through the material with her again.

The fourth time I checked Angela’s reading again. She felt more confident reading but still had trouble with words like toy, try, earn, own, store, sell etc. I suggest practicing reading the book at home to enhance memory of sight words.

Pronunciation

Today we reviewed short vowels and long vowels. I did a few blending exercises and Angela did well. We will include more phonics in the future.

We listened to the 7 continents song and 8 planets song. She really liked the songs and could sing part of it. I encourage listening to more English songs or nursery rhymes at home.
