Once My father asked me to take his friend’s son out who’s in my generation as it was his first time traveling in SH and my dad probably thought I was the most suitable person to do so. Then I texted him to meet at a cafe first around 3pm.
But actually I went there at 1pm, because one of my favorite things in the afternoon is being alone whilst reading a book and having a cup of tea.
Two hours later, he showed up and I was reading a book at the time. It seemed to be that he was quite shocked by what I was doing. He was like, “Is it useful to your career? Or you just wanna bring this book around in order to take a selfie and posted it online? I have encountered many girls like you did so.”
I found that people prefer to size you up in seconds, and evaluate you based on their own standards. As the society in China these days, people still tend to belittle girls’ effort and we are not treated in the same way as men. They think we just need to find a stable job and own a family, that’s it. It’s hard for you to find a husband if you have high education, work too hard or stand out in a bunch of areas. But people are diverse, we don’t need to be a certain stereotype to live. Live out our own wonderful!
