funnel (n) (v)- something with a large opening on one side, and a small opening on the other side. : “I need a funnel to pour this sugar.” “The Metro stations funnel people into the underground to get the train.”

hourglass – represents the shape of two funnels together, so that sand falls through the top funnel into the bottom. eg: ‘The traditional model of marketing was a funnel, but now it’s more like an hourglass.”

One of consumers e-mailed to the CEO of Starbucks to complain what happened to him when he went to buy a cup of coffee in the Starbucks. When he told a staff that he wanted to one cup of “tall” size coffee, the staff confirmed, “are you sure “tall” is ok?” with discriminative tone.

The consumer was really angry about this offensive question as a consumer with a “gold” point card of Starbucks. Also, it was not the first time to happen to him. He was quietly confused, what’s the matter about ordering a “tall” size coffee after all?

I didn’t follow up whether or what did the CEO email back him. I think they should handle this crisis PR seriously. Although it may not influence its sales, as a brand favored by people in China, they should treat every consumer friendly without any discrimination
