Vocabulary


Loan – an amount of money that someone gives you and has to be paid back, 贷款.

Ex. Normally, people need a loan from the bank in order to buy a house.

Condominium (Condo) – a hotel-style apartment, often in the same building as rented rooms

Ex. My condo building has many shared facilities, like a gym and pool.

Cynical – not trusting of others, believing other people have bad intentions

Ex. Cynical people often don’t loan money to others because they think other people won’t pay them back.

Optimistic – assuming the best of every situation

Ex. Although being optimistic is sometimes unrealistic, optimists are usually happier than pessimists (people who assume the worst).

Phrases


To “hope for the best” means to accept that something has been done and to hope for a bright future.

Ex. I didn’t do so well on my exam. I can only hope for the best.
