Recently, a game has gone viral on social media, Pockmon Go. It is based on an Japanese animation and utilize AR(augmented reality) technology. People can catch virtual pockmons in real world through the game. Crazy things continuously happened, someone tried to enter the police office to get a pockmons, one man tried to enter a female bathroom for it, and someone fell into a river and died because he was too focusing on the game. It let “Otaku”, who always stay at home and play video games or watch animation, went outside and walked over 20 thousands steps. Also, the stock of Nintendo, who developed this game, has raised 25% in one day because of this game. The player and the capitalist are all crazy for it.
Actually, there was another similar game created by Mini Cooper, which also utilized the AR tech and encouraged users to find a virtual vehicle and prevent it for being caught by others. The winner could get a real Mini Cooper. The incentive was attractive enough, but it didn’t draw much attention. The difference of these two game is the “IP”(intellectual property), Pockmons. It’s our generation’ memory, and we all wanted to be the characters in it. Now, there is a game providing a opportunity to fulfill your childhood’ dream, would you play it?
