Every day I will read my IELTS book for a half an hour.

I have been reading my IELTS book every day for a half an hour each time.

These are some of the types of IELTS essay we will look at:

  • Agree / disagree
  • Discuss two opinions
  • Advantages & disadvantages
  • Causes (reasons) & solutions
  • Causes (reasons) & effects
  • Problems & solutions

Not every essay will fit one of these patterns, but many do. You may get some of these tasks mixed up. For example, you could be asked to give your opinion on an issue, and then discuss the advantages or disadvantages of it.

The golden rule is to ALWAYS read the question very carefully to see exactly what you are being asked to do.

(Question: In many countries, average life expectancy has been increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and for society as a whole? Suggest some solutions.)

Global average life expectancy has been increasing result from developing in medical science and technology. It’s not only an advantage for people but also bring some problems.
Many countries have been developing their science, industry and technology since 21st century. Human average life expectancy are benefited by these breakthroughs especially in medical science and technology. For example, kinds of medicines have been found to cure those diseases which used to be incurable. Increasing types of medical facilities have been invited to acutely inspect and heal patients. It’s definitely great for people, but there are probably some problems need to concern. First, if we have a longer life but still retire at the same legal retirement age, it means we will have more time to consume and we had better deposited enough money. On the other hand, for the society the increasing number of old people would cause heavier burden on social insurance, it may lead to a higher tax for the people who were still working.
