Speaking exercise

Yesterday the 11/11 festival started and for my work I had to stay up late to make sure systems worked well. / to monitor the system so I left my work at 11pm so today I chose to work from home.

We have 3 important time slots / dates : oct 4, 31 and nov 11.
On those 3 days a lot of people will buy products so we need to make sure it goes well. / ensure we don’t encounter any issue

Yesterday we had more than 10,000 orders per minute after 8pm.
My boss, said it is not very good because last year and the year before the traffic was more higher than yesterday -> was higher than yesterday. / My boss said traffic was disappointing compared to last year

I hope I can reach my target to get a bonus. It depends on the sales

We have prepared a lot so we only have to monitor the systems during this time, a lot of work is before for precaution.  / we do a lot of work before the big dates.

First we need to collect all the brands and their strategies for the festival
We need to know on which day they hold campaigns.
This will make the traffic more higher -> this will make the traffic higher  / increase traffic 

We need to summarize all the strategies and calculate/estimate the traffic for the whole time.
If the traffic is too high we need to scale up our service capability

we also have a lot of systems like mini programs and the website and they belong to different vendors, we need to make sure all the system will go well / we need to make sure it will go well for them too / make sure it will go well on their side  and how to prepare to prevent incidents.

We use the data from last year and have many experienced company partners, they know if we prepare well and how to plan ahead for the system so it is fine for the big day.

It seems to be smooth and similar to last year so we haven’t encountered any issue last night, it will show us this year is similar to last year.

90% is the preparation is then done / the preparation is almost complete and we wait for the big day to monitor everything and deal with incidents.

For us it is more like the system in our company, the memberships and the orders.
At the beginning a lot of issues show up.

This time I acted as an IT partner and I think during the big day I have to deal with a lot of things and my workload is huge.
Actually my company doesn’t like normal days, they prefer big campaigns.

Customers choose to wait for the festivals and don’t buy earlier so they can buy the products for cheaper. / customers refrain from buyings a few weeks before the big day

A lot of people will rush and buy a lot of products and we need to calculate memberships, orders and discounts. It is a huge challenge for our system so every year we improve and prepare very well for the big festival.

In August we have an offline campaign so we don’t have that much traffic / it is not very intensive in terms of traffic
We call them VIP days for people who have bought a lot of products.

On these biggest festivals we have a lot of customers and if you are face to face with them you will be feel the stress, we experience it directly.

For the back end we just see the system’s traffic and we are not facing the customer so we don’t know if the brand performed well, we just know about the system but not the business / we are focused on the system and a bit distanced from the business performance.
Our system is not an e-commerce system, we just use it for membership and to calculate their levels after their purchases.

So if our system breaks down the customers may not know directly. / may not realize directly
They will ask after a few days if they don’t see their new points / if their point balance has not been updated
We aren’t facing the customers directly
We just know our system was break down -> We just know our system broke down.

What I behave may be directly to the result of the sales -> My behavior directly affects our result. / the way I behave directly affects the results
