Today, we discussed some moral dilemmas.

Pronunciation

Fifteen / Fifty (fif TEEN / FIF ty).
While the /n/ sound is important, it is even more important to put the emphasis in the correct place.

dilemma – dɪˈlɛmə

discussion – dɪsˈkʌʃən (make sure you say a /ʃ/ sound and not a /ʧ/).

live – lɪv

leave – liːv

stages – there are two syllables with two vowels – stay djiz

way / wee – weɪ / wiː (make sure the vowels are clear)

Vocabulary

get off scott free / get away scott free – a common expression when someone is found not guilty or doens’t even go to court.
She got off scott free because the police officer was nice.
The woman got off scott free because of the battered wife defence.

draw straws – a lottery system using straws
The men drew straws to see who would die

play god – making decisions which people should not make
They played god by choosing to sacrifice one of their shipates.

Grammar

They make a decision

if someone makes suicide
if someone commits suicide
