Online Class Notes (Joe)

Today we focused on:

We talked about learning strategies, business trips, and holidays.

Pronunciation

rarely – reh + lee (the first vowel is like the sound at the beginning of ‘red’)

workers – don’t forget the second vowel

alcohol – al, ki, hol (the a from ‘apple’, the i from ‘sit’ and the o from ‘box’)

Vocabulary

lose my mind – to go insane / to become very angry
If you want to exaggerate, that’s OK. You could say ‘I thought I was going to lose my mind’.
But, if you say ‘I lost my mind’ it seems quite serious.

Freedom – noun
Free – adj
You have a lot of freedom
You are really free

life – noun
We only have one life, so we can’t say ‘in my current life’. That’s strange because it implies you will have another life.
You can rather say ‘in my current lifestyle’ or ‘the way my life is currently’

I start rope skipping
I started skipping (before)
I have started skipping (recently)
People rarely say ‘rope skipping’. That’s not natural.
We would rather say ‘I started exercising with a skipping rope’ or ‘I started skipping with a rope’.

when we talk each other
when we talk to each other
The word ‘talk’ can change meaning with the preposition, so it’s important to use it. (talk to/ talk about)
