Some of the most important differences between Chinese & English grammar 

sentences: conjunctions to connect ideas (and, but, so, because, when, if,…), prepositions to add detail (at, for, with, on, by, to, in,…) – when / who / which / that 

I go to the park. It was fun. = I went to the park and I think it was fun.

nouns: which one? how many?

verbs: what time?

difference between that / which
that – adds details / sometimes can tell you which one you mean
which – adds new detail
eg. the pen that is black is yours, but the pen that is red is mine
eg2. I have a pen which is black

the 2 different uses for “that”
I know that your name is Jesse – “that” is after a verb, and then make a sentence
I have a pen that is black / I have a pen. It is black = replaces “it” to describe the noun before.

Sometimes you don’t need to include “that”
I know your name is Jesse
I know that your name is Jesse
