Last class when we talked about the Sagrada Familia, and mentioned the World Heritage, but we didn’t know its origin and what criteria it must meet to become a World Heritage,so I searched the information on the internet. In 1959, the Egyptian government planned to build the Aswan Dam, which may inundate precious monuments in the Nile Valley. In 1960, UNESCO launched the “Nubia action plan”. The monuments were decomposed carefully, then transported to the highlands and rebuilt piece by piece. The protection operation cost a total of US $80 million, and about US $40 million was raised by more than 50 countries. The action was quite successful. After that, UNESCO and the International Council of monuments and sites drafted an agreement on the protection of human cultural heritage, and set up the criteria of the World Heritage. Currently the World Heritage divided into 3 categories: Cultural site, Natural site and Mixed site. The Cultural site includes Culture Relics, architectures and Ruins which can represent the unique artistic and creative works, a witness to a culture and tradition of a period. And Natural site means a natural spot with outstanding and universal value from the perspective of science, protection or natural beauty. To be a mixed heritage, it is necessary to meet the standards of some cultural heritage and natural heritage at the same time. Up to now, there are around 1200 the World Heritage in the world, As part of the earth, we must work together to protect these heritages so that they can survive.
