The relationship of physical education and medical education

Sports medicine, an integration of sports and medicine, plays an important role in human physical and mental health. It’s not only helpful in building up a strong body, but also setting up a positive attitude for life. To promote public fitness program and cultivate high-quality talents in response to numerous challenges in the 21st century, many countries around the world pay much attention to coordinate the education reform in sports and medicine.

There is a saying which goes like ”Life lies in movement”. To develop a love for sports activities and do exercise consciously and persistently is the cornerstone for health and perfect performance in study and future work. However, in order to avoid sports injury and excessive exercise, students should receive medical education in schools so as to draw up scientific plans and enjoy exercise.

So what should sports education and medicine education focus on? Medicine does not only concerns about shallow physical indicators, and sports education does not simply refer to teaching and competitions. Instead, both of them stand for an attitude of life. The major goal of medicine education is to study sports participants’ physical development, health states and levels in sports achievement with the application of common knowledge and technique in human movement science, hygiene and clinical medicine, so as to arrange physical training and competitions in a scientific and reasonable way, and provide medical guide and supervision.

In addition to benefits in health and disease prevention, moderate exercise is also helpful to promote the recovery of organ function, and in some cases, relieve symptoms of incurable diseases, which means that it provides a new way to treat diseases except drugs. Therefore, sport health care and recovery should be a key point in sports education, especially for medical students.
