Speaking exercise

1.Explain to me something you’re working on as if I were an eight-year-old?
My job is to act as the chief of staff of the department and to improve the performance of salesforces. I think it’s like I’m teaching a class of 200 students, but unlike the one that you’re attending now, this class is much more diverse. In my class, there are students of all ages; they are good at different subjects and they all have different learning methods. So you can imagine its’ very important to understand what they know and don’t know, so that I can separate the students into small groups and design the appropriate lessons and assign the right homework for each group.

2.Describe something that you should start doing, do more of, and do less of?

The one thing that I need to start doing is making a plan for my family time. I feel like it’s very easy for me to come up with a schedule or plan for my studies or my work, but when it comes to getting in touch with my family, sometimes I drift off into work very easily. I actually forgot to call my mom or my dad back a couple of times, which made them worried. So I need to take this more seriously and make a schedule for family time, like I do for my work.

One of the good things about me is that I always go beyond what I was asked to do. I like to take initiative and always try to find ways of fixing problems as I spot them, even when they’re not my responsibility. Even though of course it can be tiring to do extra work, I want to keep this up because I get to learn more compared to my peers and I always feel very fulfilled after I see my hard work making a positive impact on the company.

Sometimes – be less intuitive/spontaneous. Working in a fast-growing company, I realised there are more problems around me than I can solve.

3.What’s the one thing you’ll never be as good at as others?

-memory. In math class, it took me longer than others to memorise the formulas. Thank God we have calendars and alarms now.

4.What are the two best pieces of advice you have been given, and why?

– always give your 100%, even on things you’re not passionate about.
