shorthand – the short way of saying or writing things.

eg: When people work together for a while, they often develop a shorthand way of communication.

eg: At my old job, we used a shorthand phrase, “ALL DAY” and that meant it was the complete order and nothing else on the order. So we would say, “I need 4 pepperoni pizzas all day.” That meant there was no other food.

eg: Normally I would use some common shorthand phrases like e.t.c. or e.t.a. when I talk with my boss.

take sth. personally – get too upset about sth. when its not really about you

Writing exercise

I did a soft review with Weifang today. Below is my feedback for your reference.

Weifang has worked for Bambu for 6 years. Since she relocated to Hefei of Anhui province and worked at home for us as full time job. She enjoyed this working style very much because she can save 2 hours on the way to company. I asked her some same questions when we had review before and I would like to share it with you one by one.

What to keep doing
She grow up and learned a lot from us at our company in the past 6 years especially in the last year. She became more confident in her position and less sensitive for some special case. She did her own job very well almost without our too much involvement such as logistic management, paper work of Order System, Payable and Receivable Account Report, Packaging Report, ETC. She is more mature than before that her communication skill is improved a lot. She is motivated and for some cases, she though ahead and tried her best to find problem at the earliest time and gave us suggestions for solutions. For example: balance payment time for our orders before holiday. Summary for the logistic problem and find solution for the future order to avoid this problem happened again.

What to do less of (need improvement)
When she is busy, she made some mistakes. I would like her to be more detailed.

What to do more of
She doesn’t have aspirations for her future, she is content to remain where she is now. Her dream is our business get bigger and bigger and she can do this job until retire. : ) As she said, her workload is very full and she would like to focus on her current job and improve her job quality. If she has extra time in the future, she may want to try new things. But for she is happy to support us for extra work during our absence.

She also takes things less personally now, and is more professional at work. She does her job very well almost without too much involvement from us, such as logistics management, Order System paperwork, Payable and Receivable Accounts Reports, and Packaging Reports. She has become more mature than before since her communication skill has improved a lot. She is motivated and for some cases, she thinks ahead and tries her best to identify problems at the earliest time and gives us suggestions for solutions. For example: balancing payment times for our orders before holidays. And making summaries for the logistic problems and finding solutions for future orders to avoid this problem in the future.

What to do less of (need improvement)
When she is preoccupied, she might make some mistakes. I would like her to be more detail oriented.

What to do more of
She doesn’t have big aspirations for her future, she is content to remain where she is now. Her dream is to help our business grow and she can do this job for the foreseeable future. As she said, her workload is very full and she would like to focus on her current job and improve the quality. If she has extra time in the future, she may want to try new things. But for now she is happy to support us for extra work during our absence.
