QUESTIONS FOR ENGLISH CLASS:

What does that mean?     I don’t know how to say it in English.

It says,  jiang ti feng bi.

What does jiang ti feng bi(that) mean?    Sorry, I don’t know that word.

Really, you can’t read that?      Yes, Chinese has about 60,000 characters. I don’t know them all.

Is there _____?       There is no class.

on time – not too late, not too early

eg: I’m on time.

plan + to + (DO) – something that you will do

eg: I plan to take your class at 2:20 tomorrow.

take/have class – shang ke

eg: I have class at 4:20 tomorrow.

sign – some writing on something, that you put on a wall or on the street, tells you what you can or can’t do

eg: There is a ‘no smoking’ sign.

eg: What does that sign say?   It says,    ‘No Smoking.’

eg: What does that sign say?   It says, “Mu zhi ping qu.”

character – a word in Chinese, or Japanese

letter – use letters to make words.     the letter C,    + the letter    A,  + the letter    T =    CAT

eg: Cat, has three letters.

eg: Chinese language doesn’t use letters. Chinese uses characters.

eg: English uses letters.
