Grammar

PRESENT : I should knock the door.

PAST : I should have knocked the door.

should, could, would –> should have, could have, would have

You often use “should have” and “could have” to express regret 后悔 or disappointment 失望

I’m sorry, I should have told you.

I’m sorry, I could have helped you.

I’m a little angry. I think you should have helped your mother yesterday.

You could have told me the meeting was cancelled ! I came for nothing !

  • I should have knocked the door but I was afraid to disturb (your class).
  • Don’t worry, no problem ! You could have knocked.
