Not just because of monotheism and polytheism, there is a main idea that makes these two systems so different.
Apart from one being monotheistic and the other polytheistic, there is another main belief differs/differentiate these two systems.

Christians believe that if people do good things and honor God, in last judgement, we will be allowed to go to heaven and serve God forever. God is powerful and the status is higher than humans. We need his protection, since humans are weak. We can see those ideas spreading to the public.
Christians believe that if people do good things and honor God, in Judgement Day, we will be allowed to go to heaven and serve God forever. God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. His status is higher than humans. We need his protection and guidance, since we are sinful. We can see those ideas spreading to the public.

Buddhism, in the contrary, it says humans can be Buddhas. Buddha means a great enlightened, it doesn’t equal to a god. And there will be no one to judge us when we die.

We will follow our own karma which includes all the good and bad behaviors, it’s totally neutral. Buddhists believe humans are all complete in the beginning, but there are too many desires cover our own wisdom. Desires also make us feel pain and worry when we can’t be satisfied. That’s why people should let go of these thoughts and free our minds.

So because of these different main ideas, their believer’s behavior patterns are not the same. Christians are willing to share all the kind and love, because they believe they’re all the spokespersons of God.
Because of the difference in their doctrines,  the behavior patterns of people who practice these two religions vary greatly. Christians are willing to share all the kind and love, because they believe they’re the spokespersons of God.

Buddhists are training themselves to observe their every thoughts consciously for letting them go and reach to non-self.
Buddhists, in contrast, would train themselves to observe their thoughts consciously and letting them go in order to enter/reach the state of non-self.
