Who do you speak with?
- In English, one sentence has one subject and one verb
My English not good. –> My English isn’t good.
My progress very slowly –> My progress is very slow / I progress very slowly.
My questions very more –> I have more questions.
形容词 adjective = slow, happy, bad, good, boring, tall, short
They go with nouns or things
A happy woman, an interesting class, a boring teacher. The man is tall. The child is naughty. Learning English is interesting.
副词 adverbs = adjectives + ly
They say HOW an action is done. It goes with verbs
sad –> sadly
boring –> boringly
happy –> happily
quick –> quickly
bad –> badly
例外:
good –> well
fast –> fast
He works slowly. She ran happily. The student boringly watched the teacher. She sings badly but her husband sings well.
General rule: adjective + verb –> adverb
This song is slow. You must sing slowly.
This job is quick. You must work quickly.
Claire is polite. She spoke politely.
I understand well.
Exceptions: be, feel, taste, smell, look
He is handsome. He looks handsome (not “handsomely”)
This food smells good. (not “well”).
This chair feels comfortable.
