turn down = say no to an offer
accurate = precise, specific, detailed
When turning down an invitation, it is better to give an accurate reason.
upfront = frank and honest
=/= roundabout
keep up appearances 装潢门面
Chinese people like to keep up appearances by speaking in a roundabout way, whereas Westerners are more blunt and upfront.
sheltered = inexperienced, who hasn’t had a lot of different experiences in life, who has stayed home for a long time
dysfunctional = that doesn’t work well
With young people being sheltered all their lives and then suddenly being asked to find a mate for life, there is no wonder so many couples are dysfunctional.
clueless = with no clue, no knowledge 一无所知
Many young people are thrown into adulthood completely clueless, which is a recipe for disaster.
let nature take its course 顺其自然
