Culture:

 

Calm: (adj.) peaceful.

Ex:  The ocean is calm today = no waves.

Ex:  I prefer people with a calm personality.

 

Own behavior and someone else’s behavior – always be polite/ be considerate of others emotions/feelings/mood

 

They will be much polite – They will be very polite/ much more polite

 

Yell/yelled/yelling: screaming, talking loudly, talking aggressively.

Ex:  Chinese people like to yell when they call their friends from a long distance.

Tolerant/ patient

Ex:  No patience for bad behavior/ bad manners.

Approachable:  (adj.) able to be approached, comfortable to approach/ not afraid of them/ you feel comfortable around them.

Ex:  I like to meet people that are approachable, rather than people who are un-approachable.

Sequence (noun):  in order, continuous or connected steps.

Ex:  Japanese people like to have sequence in their life/day.

Laid back:  relaxed. (good or bad, depends on the context).

Ex:  Brazilians are too laid back.

Tense:  not relaxed, tight, uptight.

High-strung/uptight/tense (more negative)

Retirement home/ old folks home/ nursing home:  a place for elderly to live where they can receive the help they need.

Judgmental:  to judge something/ someone who judges things a lot.

Ex:  Chinese people are judgmental of girls who are unmarried by 25.

Daycare:  1-4 aged children.  (optional – expensive!!)

Pre-school:  age 4 children (not mandatory) a school for kids to prepare for kindergarten.

Kindergarten:  part of elementary school, age 5-5.5 children.
