Vocabulary

Rhetoric (n): 1- language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience, but often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content.
E.g.: He used very strong rhetoric to convince people.

Reactionary (adj): 1- (of a person or a set of views) opposing political or social liberalization or reform.
E.g.: His speech was considered extremely conservative and reactionary.

Hateful (adj): 1- full of hate.
E.g.: He said some very hateful things.

Immigrant (n): 1- a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.
E.g.: There are immigrants from many different parts of the world living in New York City.

Refugee (n): 1- a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
E.g.: Thousands of refugees had to run away and leave their homes.

Racism (n): 1- discrimination based on race. 2- a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
E.g.: He suffered a lot of racism in his life.

Dictator (n): 1- a person who rules a country with total authority and often in a cruel or brutal way.
E.g.: The country was ruled by a military dictator.

Dictatorship (n): 1- a government or country in which total power is held by a dictator or a small group.
E.g.: The country suffered for many years under his dictatorship.
