Vocabulary

A flatmate (n) – people you live with in a flat

e.g. Sherry has two flatmates in her apartment in Changning.

To attend (v) – to go to, to participate in

e.g. Did you attend the lecture this morning?

To count (v) –

e.g. Does Tanya count as a foreigner?

to rescue (v) – to save

e.g. The Chinese Government rescued Chinese people who were stuck in the earthquake in New-Zealand.

 

Tsunami (n) – 地震海啸

E.g. There was a big tsunami in Japan a couple of years ago.

 

Grammar

An earthquake occurred in New-Zealand.

I hope you never meet this situation – I hope you will never be in this situation

  • You don’t “meet” a situation. You’re in a situation (to be in situation)
  • To meet is only for people
  • Use “will” because it’s for the future

The earthquake happens frequently – Earthquakes happen frequently

  • Earthquakes (plural) because it’s a general fact. Not about just “one” earthquake.

Have you still remember? – Do you still remember?

  • To remember something
  • To have memories
