Vocabulary

compound – 小区

e.g. In China, most people live in compounds.

grilled cheese – a cheese sandwich that you toast

e.g. I love eating grilled cheese, I love how the cheese melts.

Wechat moments – a timeline of updates of your friends on wechat

e.g. I don’t update my wechat moments very often.

Does the internet bring people closer to each other, or does it do the opposite?

Internet makes people closer to each other in some way. For example, we can send message or e-mails to our friends who are far away from us and we can do business with customers overseas. *

Even though we can’t see our other friends every day, we can know every detail about their lives by wechat moments. *

But in some way, internet does the opposite. It seems people get used to contact each other through internet and they forget how to talk to each other in real life. Talking through internet is not bad, it does make lives more convenient. We need to know how to use it properly.

We keep in touch with friends who are far away from us through internet. We can make new friends in other cities through internet, but never forget to talk to your friends around us face to face. Next time you have dinner with your friend remember to put your smartphone off and have a nice dinner and face to face conversation.

A lot of people feel anxious when they don’t have their smartphone at hand.

I felt terrible to make my friends to be worried. They couldn’t find me and they were worried if something bad happened.
