F2F Class Notes 7th March (Joseph)

Writing exercise

I’m going to write about the differences between Hong Kong and Shanghai.
I lived in Hong Kong for two years before moving to Shanghai. In my opinion, the biggest difference between HK and SH is the availability of free space. In HK everything is cramped and narrow, this is because the city area can not fit its population of over 7 million residents. We used to lived in a small studio apartment in Sheung Wan, which was about 30 square meters. Sheung Wan is a peaceful and beautiful residential district next to the city center. For the same price we paid in HK, we are now living in a two-bedroom apartment with a swimming poll, gym and gardens in Shanghai. HK is the most expensive city in the world in terms of housing.
In addition to the houses being smaller in Hong Kong, the streets are also narrower and the bars and restaurants are tiny compared to the ones of SH.
Another important difference is the outskirts of both cities. In HK, in just a few minutes you can easily go to the beach or hike in the hills. In SH however, there are no beaches or mountains near by.
The people are also different in both counties, in HK everybody speaks English
