Vocabulary

Better safe than sorry (id): 1- said when you think it is best not to take risks even when it seems boring or difficult to be careful.
E.g.: I’m not taking any short-cuts—better safe than sorry.

In the same boat (id): 1- in the same difficult situation as someone else:
E.g.: None of us has any money, so we’re all in the same boat.

Down the road (id): 1- in the future.
E.g.: Lots of things will have changed a few years down the road.

Footing (n): 1- the way in which something operates and the set of conditions that influences it. 2-
E.g.: New leadership is needed to return the company to a better financial footing.
E.g.: I lost my footing and fell.

Staggering (adj): 1- very shocking and surprising:
E.g.: It costs a staggering $50,000 per week to keep the museum open to the public.

Reach out (v): 1- to try to communicate with a person or a group of people, usually in order to help or involve them:
E.g.: The new mayor is reaching out to the local community to involve them in his plans for the city.

Down-to-Earth (adj): 1- with no illusions or pretensions; practical and realistic.
E.g.: She is a very nice, down-to-earth girl.

Savvy (n / adj): 1- knowledgeable; having common sense and good judgement.
E.g.: Bob is a savvy veteran who knows all the tricks.

Wanderlust (n): 1- wanderlust 1.A very strong or irresistible impulse to travel. 2.strong longing for or impulse toward wandering
E.g.: In July wanderlust takes over the whole nation. (= everyone wants to travel)

Squander (v): 1- to waste money or supplies, or to waste opportunities by not using them to your advantage:
E.g.: They’ll quite happily squander a whole year’s savings on two weeks in the sun.

Penalty (n): 1- a punishment, or the usual punishment, for doing something that is against a law. 2- an advantage given in some sports to a team or player when the opposing team or player breaks a rule:
E.g.: The law carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.
E.g.: The referee awarded (= gave) a penalty kick.
