Vocabulary

pot – a deep cooking vessel

eg: “Boil some water in that pot.”

pan – a shallow cooking vessel

eg: “My pan is too small to cook 8 eggs.” “Then you can cook 8 mini eggs in that pan.”

flour – mian fen – a white powder made from grain, used to cook with.

eg: “I’m allergic to flour,so I can’t eat bread.”

butter – huang you

eg: “You need to grease the pan with butter before you bake the cake.”

dough – a mixture of flour and water, used to make cakes, bread, pizza and sweets (doughnuts)

eg: “This dough needs to sit for an hour before we can use it.”

doughnuts – tiantian quan

deep fry – to cook in a pot of oil

eg: ” Doughnuts are deep fried balls of dough, covered in sugar and sometimes filled with cream or fruit.”

bake – to cook in an oven

eg: “You only need to bake a cake for about an hour.”

mix – to combine two things together

eg: ” Mix the eggs with flour and water, then add sugar.”
