Review

I should:  it’s best if you do it.  (but you might not)

Eg.  I should do my homework.

I have to:  you absolutely have to do it.  (there’s no getting out of it.)

Eg.  I have to take care of my daughter.

I must:  something you must do.

Eg.  I must put my daughter to bed.

Eg.  Sally is beautiful but mean.

Eg.  Johnny is funny and smart.

Thorough:  very careful/ to complete something perfectly, without mistakes.

Eg.  She was very thorough when filling out the paperwork.

Eg.  I cleaned my car thoroughly.

Reading:

Wimpy:  weak.

A wimp:  a weak person.

Journal (jer – null):  same as diary, but sounds less girly.

Specifically (speh – cif – ick – lee):  particularly.  To be exact.

Moron:  a dumb person.

To be stuck:  can’t escape, can’t leave.

Handy:  useful.

Growth spurt:  when kids suddenly start to grow really fast.

Plunk/plunked/plunking:  to drop heavily.

Eg.  I plunked my bag on the chair after I came to the room.

Elementary school:  grades K-6.  (before middle school)

Butt:  bum/bottom.

Scramble:  to mix up.  扰乱

Scrambling:  running around, and all mixed up.

Hovering:  to be right above something without touching it.

To sneak off:  to secretly leave/run away.

Moldy:  when something is going bad, and grows mold.

Eg.  The cheese was moldy.

Mold:  the bacteria that grows on food that is old.

Nasty:  gross!

Basketball hoop:  the metal part that is attached to the backboard.

Basketball net:  the fabric string that is attached to the hoop.

Crazy (cray – zee)

Spurt (spert)

Gorilla (gore – rill- uh)

Bullying (bull – eee – ing)

L:  curl your tongue so the tip touches your gums right above your front teeth.
