private investigator = a person who investigates various cases, NOT a policeman

to investigate = to look into something, to find out more details about something, to search

to skip = to not go through something, to go over, to ignore or miss

E.g.

I’m too busy today, I think I’m going to skip lunch. I will keep working through lunch.

[When watching a movie] This part is boring, please skip it. Fast forward. (FFW)

I tried to play my father’s old records, but they kept skipping. The record would not play properly

hangover = the state someone goes through the morning after drinking too much

to be hungover = to suffer from a hangover

E.g.

I just saw Mandy, she had a terrible hangover from last night.

I just saw Mandy, she was terribly hungover.

The house looked good on the outside. = The exterior of the house looked good.

The house looked good on the inside. = The interior of the house looked good.
