transliteration – a translation of a word from one language to another with very similar sounds eg: “Holland, and he lan, Punk, Pun ke, Tofu, Dou fu, Ping Pong”

Possibly the Chinese word for Germany, De Guo is a transliteration from the German language word Deutschland and not from English Germany.

espionage – spying eg: “A lot of American companies are worried about corporate espionage from Chinese competitors.”

vetted (adj) – have gone through the process of being proved trustworthy eg: “The German investors make sure that all Chinese companies they work with are thoroughly vetted before they do business.” “The authorities will thoroughly vet(v) any corporate documents before they issue a business license.”

verbal contract

passed away – polite way to say someone died eg: “I’m sorry to hear that your father passed away.”
